Margo’s Song is about holding onto memories, feeling powerless and being by someone’s bedside terrified to let that person go. Montreal singer-songwriter Geneviève Racette wrote the track in one night after a three-hour drive home from visiting her aunt Margo at the hospital. She picked up her guitar and the song flowed right out of her.

Filmed by Southern Souls, Geneviève’s silky voice delivers raw emotion in this delicate live version of the song shot at The Toronto Heliconian Club. This location really spoke to her personal musical journey. It’s a non-profit organization, the oldest association of its kind in Canada, founded in 1909 to give women in the arts and letters an opportunity to meet socially and intellectually. It is so important for Geneviève as a woman in music to surround herself with other talented, strong women and support associations that do the same.

Margo’s Song is off Geneviève’s latest album, No Water, No Flowers, her first bilingual album which was met by an overwhelmingly positive response from the industry and landed her regular spots on major editorial playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Geneviève effortlessly transports you into a warm, cozy, folk-pop atmosphere with the most personal album she has created yet, covering themes of life, death, grief, love, and travels.

With over 1 Million streams on Spotify, performing on stage with City and Colour at Osheaga, a nomination from Sirius XM Indies for “Emerging Artist of the Year”, continuous editorial playlist support from all streaming platforms and major love from media outlets throughout North America and beyond, it’s safe to say that Geneviève Racette is one to watch!

Lyrics:

For fourteen hours I have stood here with flowers in my hands
They let me put them in your hair just like you used to do
When we were younger and much stronger, invincible
Life was beautiful and endless, we were untouchable

Can you hear my voice?
I’m doing all I can to wake you so we could love again
Your heart’s not empty yet
I’m sure, I know
You’ll rise and smile and dance with me again

You look so peaceful like a princess just waiting for a kiss
And even though your chest is hurting, I promise you the pain will fade
I should of told you that I love you every single day
Because if you stay asleep forever I wouldn’t find my way

Can you hear my voice?
I’m doing all I can to wake you so we could love again
Your heart’s not empty yet
I’m sure, I know
You’ll rise and smile and dance with me again

Don’t let the flowers wilt
My goodbyes are not ready yet
Don’t let the flowers wilt
My goodbyes are not ready yet

Can you hear my voice?
I’m doing all I can to keep you here with me
If your heart’s too tired, you can just let go
And I’ll look up, I’ll watch you dance from here
And you’ll make me smile again.
