Singer-songwriter Casey Ahern introduces her new single, “Sunday Driver,” recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and produced by The Buzz Brothers – Nathan Meckel and Mark Niemiec.

With its upbeat tempo and infectious rhythm, “Sunday Driver” narrates Casey’s road trips with her dad, when she was younger.

A who’s who of Nashville’s finest musicians appear on the track, including Tim Galloway (guitar), Kris Donegan (guitar), Lee Hendricks (bass), David Dorn (keyboards), Matt King (drums), and double Grammy nominee Eamon McLoughlin (violin).

A free spirit, constantly on the move, Casey grew up in SoCal listening to Glen Campbell, Jackson Browne, and the Eagles. Her parents took her to see Faith Hill and Tim McGraw when she was seven-years-old, instilling her with a passion for contemporary country music, followed by taking guitar lessons. Later, after finishing high school at age 16, she attended Moorpark College, studying journalism and participating in the Applied Music Program for Voice and Guitar.

A year later, on a whim, she took off to study at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Returning to California for a brief stay, she then headed to Nashville, performing at open mics and writing music. She released her debut single, “And Me,” in 2018, followed by her EP, He Was Summer, followed by earning her pilot’s license in 2019.

To record her forthcoming EP, Where I Run, which includes “Sunday Driver,” Casey traveled back to Nashville. She describes the experience, “This was my first time recording in Nashville, and it was an exciting, inspiring experience. We’re staying in the mainstream country vein while incorporating influences from other genres I love, including pop and folk and blues on the song ‘Heartbreak Radio.’ Nathan and Mark have incredible instincts and ears and immediately knew what they were listening for and what they wanted to hear from me. Before the sessions, I sent them work tapes with just acoustic guitar and vocals, with the chords, lyrics, and melody there in raw form. They crafted the songs into tracks beyond anything I could have imagined.”

“Sunday Driver” opens on a stylish country-pop flavored melody riding a contagious rhythm made up of a fat bassline and crisp percussion. The rolling undulation of the music imbues the tune with a velvety flow, as Casey’s delicious tones infuse the lyrics with vibrant timbres. There’s a wide-open warm and breezy feel to “Sunday Driver.”

“Baby be my Sunday driver / Leave before the sun sets the hemisphere on fire / And hideaway in some truck stop diner / Pick a destination based on the front rack of flyers / Cause I got nowhere to be either / So baby be my Sunday driver.”

With “Sunday Driver,” Casey Ahern generates a wonderfully irresistible song laced with silky textures and her superb voice.
